Sketch for "The Conjuror," 1775. The conjuror represents Sir Joshua Reynolds, the President of the Royal Academy. The young girl is Angelica Kauffmann, a member of the Academy, and allegedly Reynolds’s former lover. Oil on wood, 57.5 x 81.9 cm. Purchased 1967 (T00938).
