Bellerophon and the crowning of a young woman. Close-up of a Roman mosaic, 4th CE, from the House of the Nymphs. 9'10" x 7'9" (300 x 237 cm). Discovered in 1966. Iobates, King of Lycia gives the hand of his daughter Philonoe to Bellerophon, tamer of the winged horse Pegasus. (Illiad, VI). The young woman wears the gilded bridal dress and a sumptuous crown of plants.
