The closing scene of the trial at Rennes : reading the verdict, 1899. Printed on border: "At twenty to five on Saturday the judges returned into court. 'Present arms!' rang out as they took their seats on the platform. There were cries of 'Hush! Hush!' followed by a death-like silence, as the president began to read the judgment. The president, having read the text of the law setting forth the penalty provided, declared that the court-martial, by a majority of five votes against two, sentenced Captain Dreyfus to ten years detention."
