Rote Kapelle Berlin [The Red Chapel]. 1941. The three men, Harro Schulze-Boysen, Walter Küchenmeister and Kurt Schumacher belonged to an anti-Nazi resistance group nicknamed the "Rote Kapelle" by their persecutors because of their leftist, i.e. communist leanings, and their connections to Moscow. The bridge under construction in the backgroud is modeled after one in Jena-Göschwitz. Oil and tempera on calico, over wood, 79,0 x 99,0 cm. Inv. 1967 LM. Photo: Sabine Ahlbrand-Dornseif.
