Gemellion, (bowl). Medieval, 1250-1275. From Limoges, France. The basin of the gemellion is decorated with fabulous beasts in combat. In the centre two hybrid creatures confront one another, each with a shield and a sword. In the four surrounding scenes the same hybrids do battle with lions and winged dragons. The design is punctuated at intervals with heraldic shields. Diam. 22.7 cm. Inv. PY 1878,1101.12(&Others).
