The Shabako Stone, Egyptian, 25th Dynasty, c700 BC. According to the text, King Shabako inspected the temple of Ptah and was horrified to find that a papyrus scroll was being devoured by worms. He ordered that the remaining undamaged text be incised in stone. The slab, from Memphis, was later re-used as a millstone, damaging the hieroglyphs.
