A scene from the battle between the Minamoto and Taira Clans, Edo period, Kambun era, Japan, c1661-c1673. The crests of bamboo grass on the shields on the right indicate the Minamoto clan. This is one of six screens depicting several crucial episodes in the war that was fought between the Minamoto (or Genji) clan and the Taira (or Heike) clan in the late twelfth century.
