Door lintel from a house (pare), Maori, from the Poverty Bay area, New Zealand, Polynesia, c1800-c1820. W: 98cm. Inv. ET Oc1854,1229.89. - This style of lintel is generally thought to represent Papatuanuka, often shortened to Papa, the Earth Mother giving birth to the principal gods.
