Working on a parchment scroll for a Torah, 1974. Bernard Nuremberger, rules guide lines with the blunt edge of a knife in the sheepskin. His pen is a goosequill, which he holds in his lips temporarily. A Sefer Torah is a scroll of Jewish religious law. The beginning and end sheets of the parchment scroll are sewn to two staffs around which the Torah is progressively wound and unwound as it is read.
