Silver 'lamp'. From Ur, southern Iraq, ca. 2600-2400 BCE. Discovered in the first of the Royal Graves excavated at Ur. The eight-petalled rosette decorating the base is a common design found on objects and seals in Mesopotamia. It seems more probable that this vessel was used for pouring libations (liquid offerings) in a ritual. Diam. 10.3 cm. Inv. AN 120695.
