Mystras, ruined fortified town, capital of the Byzantine Despotate of the Morea, 14th - 15th century, on Mount Taygetus near ancient Sparta, in Peloponnese, Laconia, Greece. On top of the hill is the Palace of the Despots, residence of the kephale or governor and of the despots, built 13th - 15th century.
