Death of Judas Iscariot, with body hanging from a tree, demon removing his soul and innards falling out of his split torso, by Giovanni Canavesio, 1450-1500, detail from the fresco cycle of the Passion of Christ and Last Judgement, 15th century, by Giovanni Canavesio and Giovanni Baleison, in the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines or Shrine of Our Lady of the Fountains, near La Brigue, Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. On the left is Christ nailed to the cross for crucifixion, and on the right is the Virgin with St John and the Holy Women, detail from the Crucifixion of Christ. The catholic sanctuary chapel was built in the 13th century and enlarged in the 1490s, when the dukes of Savoy commissioned the paintings. It is listed as a historic monument.
