The Ivan the Great Bell Tower in the Moscow Kremlin, Russia, 1881. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower is the tallest of the Kremlin's numerous towers. It serves as the belfry for the Kremlin's Assumption, Archangel and Annunciation Cathedrals. The tower was built in the 1500s by Tsar Vasily III as a monument to his father, Ivan III, but was extended to its present height of 81 metres (266 feet) in 1600 by Boris Godunov. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
