Boris Pasternak, Russian poet and novelist, Peredelkino, USSR, 1940s. Pasternak (1890-1960) is best known outside of Russia as the author of the epic novel Doctor Zhivago, published in 1957. Within Russia he is most highly regarded as a poet. His collection of poems My Sister Life (1917) is widely considered to be the most influential work of Russian poetry of the 20th century. Found in the collection of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, Moscow.
