Maxim Litvinov and French writer Romain Rolland in Red Square, Moscow, USSR, 1935. Litvinov (1876-1951) was Soviet Foreign Minister at the time. Rolland (1866-1944) was a dramatist, novelist and essayist who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915. He was invited by Russian author Maxim Gorky to visit Moscow in 1935 and meet Stalin, and afterwards acted as an unofficial ambassador to the Soviet Union for French artists. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
