Leon Trotsky and his family, Alma Ata, USSR, 1928. Trotsky (1879-1940) with his wife, Natalia Sedova (1882-1962), and son, Lev Sedov (1906-1938). Trotsky was one of the leading figures of the Russian Revolution and in the Soviet government afterwards. In January 1928 he was exiled to Alma Ata, today in Kazakhstan, and the following year was banished from the Soviet Union altogether.
