Smeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse, Devon, c1850. Built on the treacherous Eddystone Rocks by John Smeaton 1n 1756-1759, this was the third lighthouse on the site, 14 miles south of Plymouth, the previous two having been destroyed by storm and fire respectively.
