The largest stock exhange in the world, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was founded in 1792 when 24 stockbrokers signed the Buttonwood Agreement, so called because they met under a buttonwood tree. The organisation drafted a formal constitution in 1817. The NYSE is located at 18 Broad Street on the corner of Wall Street in Manhattan. The building opened in 1903.
