United States Lock and Dam No 2, Mississippi River, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, 1910.
United States Lock and Dam No 2, Mississippi River, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, 1910. Vintage postcard. A bridge crosses the river and buildings dot the landscape on the far bank. Construction of the lock and dam, the first to be built on the Upper Mississippi, began in 1898. The facility was only in operation from 1907 until 1912 after which increasing interest in hydroelectric power led to its replacement by today's Lock and Dam 1 a few miles downriver.
