MacArthur Bridge over the Mississippi, St Louis, Missouri, USA, 1940s(?).
MacArthur Bridge over the Mississippi, St Louis, Missouri, USA, 1940s(?). Vintage linen postcard. A paddlewheel river boat is seen sailing under the bridge. Originally known as the St Louis Municipal Bridge, this truss bridge opened in 1917. It was renamed in honour of US General Douglas MacArthur in 1942. The bridge carried rail and road traffic across the Mississippi but today the road deck is disused.
