Lake Washington Floating Bridge, Seattle, Washington, USA, 1957.
Lake Washington Floating Bridge, Seattle, Washington, USA, 1957. Vintage postcard showing a view of the bridge that carries traffic from Seattle to Mercer Island. Designed by Homer Hadley, this floating pontoon road bridge was opened in 1940. It is the second longest floating bridge in the world, exceeded only by the Evergreen Point Bridge, which crosses the same lake a few miles further north. The bridge sank after a storm in 1990, and was replaced with a new one, the Lacey V Murrow Memorial Bridge, three years later.
