Prince and Princess Ito of Japan and their family, 1909. Ito Hirobumi (1841-1909) was educated in Japan and Britain. He served as prime minister four times between 1885 and 1901. He later served as Resident-General of Korea, which had become a Japanese protectorate after the Russo-Japanese War. Ito Hiobumi was assassinated by An Jung-geun, a Korean nationalist and independence activist, at Harbin, Manchuria, on 26 October 1909. A print from L'Illustration, 30 October 1909.
