The mortuary, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, Spanish Civil War, c1936-c1939. Barcelona was the scene of street fighting between different Republican factions between 3 and 8 May 1937. The Nationalist leader General Franco ordered the aerial bombing of the city in March 1938, with Italian aircraft dropping 44 tons of bombs. Barcelona fell to the Nationalists on 26 January 1939.
