US Navy cruiser USS Northampton (CA-26), Panama Canal, Panama, 1931. Commissioned in 1930, the 'Northampton' was the lead ship of her class of heavy cruisers. She was sunk by Japanese torpedoes at the Battle of Tassafaronga off Guadalcanal on 30 November 1942. The photograph was taken during a Cunard Line cruise to the West Indies between January and March 1931.
