Beer mugs with a golfing theme, American, c1890-1906. Artist: Ceramic Art Company
Beer mugs with a golfing theme, American, c1890-1906. The mug on the left is an example of Dickensware made by the Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio, at the end of the 19th century. The decoration was applied using a process known as agraffito. The outlines were scratched onto the soft clay before firing, and afterwards the earth-coloured background was sprayed onto the whole surface and the scratched shapes were then filled in with solid colours. The other two mugs are examples of Lenoxware, made by the Ceramic Art Company between 1894 and 1906.
