Devil's Gorge, White City, Chicago, Illinois, USA, 1908.
Devil's Gorge, White City, Chicago, Illinois, USA, 1908. Postcard showing the entrance to the Devil's Gorge amusement at White City. The white stone arch is flanked by three pillars on each side. A Large red devil spreads his wings as he peeks over the archway. Ride goers are also visible. The White City Amusement Park on Chicago's South Side opened in 1905, when it claimed to be the biggest in the United States. By the mid 1930s attendances were declining and the park went into receivership. In 1939 it was condemned and the facilities were auctioned off in 1946.
