Main entrance to Fort Dufferin and the Royal Palace, Mandalay, Burma, 1908. The palace was built between 1857 and 1859 as part of King Mindon's establishment of Mandalay as Burma's royal capital. The British converted the palace compound into Fort Dufferin after they captured it, and the Burmese royal family, at the end of the Third Anglo-Burmese War in 1885. Stereoscopic card. Detail.
