Max Baer, American boxer, 1938. Baer (1909-1959) won the World Heavyweight Championship in 1934 when he knocked out defending champion Primo Carnera, but he lost the title the following year in a shock points defeat by James J Braddock. A colourful character, Baer also worked as an actor, entertainer, professional wrestler and referee. A Churchman's Cigarettes picture card.
