'United States Battleship 'Indiana'', c1890s.
'United States Battleship 'Indiana'', c1880. The first ship to bear the name, the USS 'Indiana' entered service with the US Navy in 1895. She played an important role in the destruction of the Spanish fleet at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba on 3 July 1898 during the Spanish-American War. The 'Indiana' was decommissioned in 1919 and sunk as a target ship in Chesapeake Bay during Navy aerial bombing tests.
