'Ways and Means', 1871. A caricature of John George Dodson (1825-1897), British Liberal politician. Dodson served as MP for East Sussex, Chester and Scarborough. Between 1865 and 1872 he was Chairman of Ways and Means (Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons) and later went on to hold ministerial offices in Gladstone's administrations. He was raised to the peerage as 1st Baron Monk Bretton in 1884. From 1889 until 1892 Dodson was the first Chairman of the East Sussex County Council. A print from Vanity Fair, 16 December 1871.
