Execution of St Alban, late 19th or early 20th century.
Execution of St Alban, late 19th or early 20th century. A pagan who converted to Christianity, St Alban is regarded as the first British Christian martyr. He was executed by the Romans, but the date of his death, probably in the 3rd or early 4th century, is uncertain. St Albans Abbey was later founded near the site of his execution.
