'An old friend with a new face or the baron in disguise', 1821. Artist: Anon
'An old friend with a new face or the baron in disguise', 1821. A bison with the head of Bartolomeo Pergami is embraced by Queen Caroline. Alderman Matthew Wood rushes up from the left with arms raised while a grinning beefeater stands by. The Queen's alleged adulterous affair with Pergami was one of the grounds used by George IV to have their marriage dissolved and her title revoked. Alderman Wood was a leading champion of the Queen's cause. © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images
