'The sailor's revenge, or the Strand in an uproar...', 1749. Artist: LP Boitard
'The sailor's revenge, or the Strand in an uproar...', 1749. A crowd of seamen makes a bonfire of the fittings of brothels, presumably in the Strand. Some throw furniture, pictures and other objects from the windows, others crowd in the street, while the women run towards the right. Various remarks come from the people's mouths. © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images
