Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil and Princess Amelie of Leuchtenberg. Pedro I proclaimed Brazil independent from Portugal and declared himself its Emperor in 1822. He married Amelie of Leuchtenberg, the granddaugther of Josephine de Beauharnais, Empress of the French, in 1829. The couple left Brazil for Portugal after Pedro abdicated in 1831.
