Alton Towers, Staffordshire, 1951. Artist: FJ Palmer
Alton Towers, Staffordshire, 1951. The stately house sits in a beautiful garden landscape with a river passing in front. This was the creation of the 15th and 16th Earls of Shrewsbury. It was built during the first half of the 19th century as a monument to Catholic Romanticism. Architects included James Wyatt and AWN Pugin. The house is now in ruins but the gardens are open to the public.
