Detail of the porch at Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire, 1998. Kirby Hall was one of the finest houses built in the 17th century. Begun in 1570 by Sir Humphrey Stafford, it was completed by Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor to Elizabeth I. The porch of 1570-75 which leads into Great Hall is richly decorated in the Renaissance style.
