Finsbury Health Centre, Islington, London, c1939. Artist: Herbert Felton
Finsbury Health Centre, Islington, London, c1939. An example of modern architecture, made of concrete, with one side mainly comprising of glass blocks, and a stylised baclony on the right. Photographed shortly after its completion in 1938. It forms part of a pioneering scheme to improve and centralise various healthcare projects before the foundation of the National Health Service. It was designed by Berthold Lubetkin who had deeply held beliefs about the role architecture could play in the creation of a new society.
