Fountain at Witley Court, Great Whitley, Hereford and Worcester, 1996. Artist: J Richards
Detail of Perseus and Andromeda Fountain at the south front of Witley Court, Great Witley, Hereford and Worcester, 1996. The house, now in ruins, is surrounded by landscaped gardens by W Nesfield containing a number of immense stone fountains. This is the largest, and once shot water 120 feet skywards with 'the noise of an express train'. Witley Court was an early Jacobean manor house, which was converted in the 19th century into a vast Italianate mansion with porticoes by John Nash.
