Convalescent ward at Great Dixter, Northiam, East Sussex, 1915. Artist: Nathaniel Lloyd
Convalescent ward at Great Dixter, Northiam, East Sussex, 1915. Timber-framed solar at Great Dixter, laid out as a ward for convalescent soldiers during the 1st World War. This medieval room with its roof beams, mullioned window with leaded lights and large fireplace has been filled with beds covered in Red Cross blankets. A few years previously Sir Edwin Lutyens had worked on this house, the photographer's own home.
