Auditorium of the Odeon, Claremont Road, Surbiton, London, c1934. Artist: J Maltby
Auditorium of the Odeon, Claremont Road, Surbiton, London, c1934. Designed in the contemporary Art Deco style with a strong linear emphasis. The lighting on the ceiling and around the stage emphasises the grand scale of the building and focuses the attention on the stage. The carpet visible on the stairs in a geometric fan design was used in many other Odeon cinemas of the time. This cinema was designed by Joseph Hill.
