Forging heads at the Edgar Allen Steel Foundry, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1962. Artist: Michael Walters
Forging heads at the Edgar Allen Steel Foundry, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1962. The forge presses metal between two dies (called tooling) that contain a precut profile of the part which is being manufactured. Parts from a few ounces to 60,000 lbs can be made using this process. Some items can be cold pressed and in this case it looks like a pneumatic drill pick is being made.
