Walsh's department store in Sheffield during its redevelopment, South Yorkshire, 1967. Artist: Michael Walters
Completed Walsh's department store redevelopment, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1967. The front of the store was demolished and rebuilt to accommodate the new road junction, which incorporated the 'hole in the road' pedestrian walkway. The landmark junction unfortunately became the scene of numerous muggings and was redeveloped in the early 1990s to make way for Sheffield's new tram system. Walsh's became a House of Fraser store until the shop closed and the site was taken over by TH Hughes.
