Woolworths, Barnsley store, South Yorkshire, 1971. Artist: Michael Walters
Woolworths, Barnsley store, South Yorkshire, 1971. The Barnsley branch of FW Woolworths showing an early 1970s design which was typical of the time. The look was to become dated and these kind of ultra modern facades would be replaced with glass or polished metal whilst more traditional buildings, such as the Burton's store next door would be restored to their original state. Woolworths closed in 2009 due to the global recession.
