Julius Rosenberg, c1953. Julius Rosenberg (1918-1953) and Ethel Greenglass Rosenberg (1915-1953) were the only Americans to be executed for espionage. They were found guilty of conspiracy to commit espionage in relation to passing secrets to the Soviet Union in connection to the American atomic bomb.
