Gate of the Citadel, Plymouth, Devon, 1924-1926. Plymouth's Royal Citadel was built in the late 1660s. Designed by Sir Bernard de Gomme, it was constructed on the site of the earlier fort built during the time of Sir Francis Drake. The Baroque gate is entirely built from Portland stone.
