Severndroog Castle, Shooter's Hill, Woolwich, Kent, 1808. Artist: FR Hay
Severndroog Castle, Shooter's Hill, Woolwich, Kent, 1808. This is a folly that commemorates Sir William James, Commodore of the Bombay Marine, who destroyed the Indian island fortress of Suvarnadurg in 1755. It was built by James' widow, Lady James of Eltham, and was designed by Richard Jupp. The building was completed in 1784. © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images
