Sunbeam Rapier car accident, Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire, 1964.  Artist: Michael Walters
Sunbeam Rapier car accident, Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire, 1964. On the evening of 8th January 1964, Mrs Pat Walters skidded on ice and crashed through the barriers of a bridge in Kilnhurst. She was able to swim away from the convertable car to safety and the car was pulled out of the canal the next day. After enquiring about her health, Mr Victor Waddington, who owned the boat yard in nearby Swinton, informed Mrs Walters that if she would like to keep her car out of his canal, he would try to keep his barges off her roads.
