A busy foundry shop floor with lathes, Wombwell, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, 1963. Artist: Michael Walters
A busy foundry shop floor with lathes, Wombwell, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, 1963. This photograph shows the busy shop floor at Wombwell foundry. A number of lathes and milling equipment can be seen in the background and a 5 foot roller hangs from the crane. A shop floor manager oversees the work whilst puffing on his pipe, a practice which would not be allowed today. The foundry eventually closed in the 1980s.
