One of the 'great triumvirate' who dominated professional golf in the 20 years before the First World War, James Braid (1870-1950) won the Open Championship 5 times, in 1901, 1905, 1906, 1908 and 1910. He was club professional first at Romford and then Walton Heath, and was also a highly regarded golf course designer.
