In the space of 8 years beginning in 1922, Jones achieved enormous success in championship golf, winning 3 Open Championships, 1 Amateur Championship, 4 US Opens, 5 US Amateur Championships and being on the winning team in 5 Walker Cups. In 1930 he achieved the Grand Slam of the Open, US Open, Amateur Championship and US Amateur Championship, after which he retired from competitive golf. When shown this photograph in 1930, Jones said that his position at the top of his swing remained the same as when the picture was taken.
